natwest and credit report there fault

hello
I need some advice please, well I am my brothers appointee for his disability benefits etc he gets his money paid into my nat west account. He had back money of £2500 paid in stated in a dwp letter sent to my home address,he needed white goods for his new home so asked me to withdraw it all.The banker just paid me the cash he went and spent £1000of the cash until NatWest rang me saying the money wasn't in my account to give.after phone calls to dwp it was put into a different account by mistake.
now there wanted all the cash back and said it was cashers fault as she never authorized the payment!! Now I returned the 1500 and they opened a repayment account at £50 pm and a promise no fees or will show on my credit file, now fast forward 5 months and its on my file? I only knew this to a NatWest mortgage advicer when I called for a meeting about a mortgage. I spoke with NatWest for it to be removed 5 weeks ago no reply spoke again today to a manger who is putting in a formal complaint and going to ring me back..
where do I stand with this, all the phone calls and being turned down for a mortage and its there fault for not checking and they have admitted this..surely some kind of redress?
