Contactless Card

Options
Hey.

I created a student account last week with Santander, at the branch I was promised a contactless card.

Today the card came and realised it was a non contactless card with black writing, compared to my friend's card which is contactless with the silver embossed writing. Cause this is a student account there is a planned overdraft. Would there be any reason why I was declined and he was accepted.

Regards

nzdy

I might be wrong but I think banks have been rolling out contactless cards depending on the region of the country. So if may be something to do with that. I don't think it has anything to do with credit ratings or anything like that.

If you ring them and ask they might replace your card.

Back in the early days they did as the trial started in London and the South East, now they all issue them nationwide. It is often down to credit rating, if the card the OP has got has black numbers on it then its probably a Visa Electron, although it would be strange to be given this card with an overdraft.

If you have the black lettered card, as far as I recall, you have the online version of the Visa Debit card - i.e. the new version of a Visa Electron. You're right that the card is different from the silver embossed one - which presumably is the only one they give contactless functionality to.

Give them a call and see if they can issue you with a silver embossed one - but yeah, basically it'll be to do with your credit rating - do you have much of one?
