100 Euro notes in Greece

Hi all

We ordered our Euros (using the MSE page to find the best rate) but have been sent a couple of 100 euro notes in the currency. Can someone advise me if they will be easy to use in Crete? Usually we go to Cyprus and they aren't a problem there, but with the current situation in Greece I just wanted to check if they will be ok or if places may refuse them.

Thanks.

If you try to buy a bottle of water with a 100 euro note you may have a problem but if you pay for a lunch or evening meal for say 40 euros it shouldn't be a problem.

This was our experience in Crete in May 2015 (pretty small resort) and Parga in July (busy resort).

gotta love the companies that deliver people €100 notes , i get them all the time wanting to change what they have been sent , i guess they do its as its less work for them when packing

I never do, but if I bought some euros like this I would expect a selection of notes, a few tens and twenties, a couple of fifties, and the rest in hundreds if possible to cut down on bulk. They can always be changed somewhere as you go ahead. I don't know why people worry about big notes, perhaps because Brits rarely use anything bigger than a £20 note so the equivalent of a £70 bill seems precarious.
