Refund Question

I bought an unlocked iPhone 5c from a trading shop last Monday. I bought It specifically to put out a WIFI hotspot so I could watch netflix on my PS3. When I left the store I said (jokingly) I would bring it back if it didn't do what I wanted, they said they would be waiting. When I got it home and tried it out it didn't put out a strong enough signal to connect to Netflix.

I have an Irish phone that is on the same network as my English SIM. Using the hotspot for my Irish HTC desire 610 it connected to Netflix. So I know it has nothing to do with the internet strength around me.

When I took the phone back to the shop today ( with the reason that it didn't do what I ultimately bought it for) they said the could not refund the phone. They claimed that as the phone was fine (signal better in town) and said the didn't do cash refunds. I was happy to take store credit and picked out another phone that was £80 less than what I paid for the iPhone.

I expected them to give me store credit to make up this £80 but they didn't. I even tried to persuaded them to throw in a PS3 controller (£27) but they didn't.

I Like the store but I feel that I have been taken for a ride here. The phone did not do what I bought it for, which was to connect to Netflix at home. The fact that I could connect on my Irish phone shound have been a factor.

Am I within my rights to insist on the £80 store credit or do I just leave it and stop using the store.

Oh and by the way, the new phone also doesn't work. My old Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 (Irish unlocked) did but wasn't recent enough to put out a strong enough signal for my Netflix. It also put out a better hotspot signal all round than either phones I got form this shop.

Well I think as the phone works then you're a bit stuck. Signal will vary from place to place so that is not a fault with the phone.
    Come on you Irons
  • well technically the phone did what you wanted it to do, it was just not strong enough to do what you wanted, maybe you should of researched different phones first.
