Problems with Automatic Updates

My laptop has automatic updates switched on, and the last one was on Wednesday night (15th). So when I turned the laptop off, the updates installed automatically.
However, on Thursday, althouth the connection icon said there was a connection to the Internet, no webpages would display. I have spent Thursday and Friday evening trying to figure out what has gone wrong, and as a last resort used System Restore to go back to Wednesday, before the automatic updates.
Hey Presto!! I can now log back on. Now I can get back onto the internet i have done a google search on automatic updates, and it would appear that there is a problem in some cases. Has anyone else experienced this? It is incredibly annoying when something which is supposed to improve the computer actually makes it worse. And with no internet connection , no way to tap into other peoples knowledge:mad:
Well, at least it appears to be sorted for now, but I'm just wary of turning the laptop off, and finding the updates wanting to be installed again.
Going to bed now I've managed to sort the problem.

at the moment there does seem to be a problem as they just slowed my pc's down...but be aware that micrsoft did have some up-dates hacked so I would turn off automatic and go get them every month on the 15th from microsoft themselves that's your best bet...start...all programmes...windows update's... this is anyone's best bet...as it would suggest that the up-dates you got were not infact from M$ and corrupt to block your pc...:D M$ send out up-date's on the 15th of every month...HTH's:DMy laptop has automatic updates switched on, and the last one was on Wednesday night (15th). Are you running a firewall ??
The latest set of updates include an IE7 update and when this update was installed on my machine, ZoneAlarm reported that Windows Internet Explorer had changed and I needed to grant it permission to access the internet again. Once this had been done, all webpages displayed ok.
