Scottish Power misleading wrong prices?

I'm on "Online Fixed Price Energy May 2016" and I want to find out what I'm paying for the day units and per kWh. So I log into the Scottish Power online portal, and click my tariff... I'm then presented with a form I need to complete... when I complete that I get a massive laundry list of tariff links, one of which is named as per my tarriff above..... I click it:

https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/tilpdf/H-SVRAK-BDM-1R-ELEC.pdf

Here it tells me that the daily standing charge for both gas and electricity is 20.55p... yes, for "Online Fixed Price Energy May 2016", the tariff name is also written at the top of the PDF. Now, according to Scottish Power, that is WRONG, as are the kWh prices stated there. The daily standing charge on this tariff is actually 34.251p!!!

The guy I was speaking to didn't sound that interested. I offered to email him the details and the PDF link, which I have now done. Maybe they will update the PDF at some point? In the mean time I feel for customers who are surely being misled, as I was, after logging in to the portal to try and find out their current prices.
I hear the cry of the silence around me.

  • After you sign up for a tariff, then the supplier should send you a copy of the Tariff Information Label which will tell you the prices of that particular tariff. Otherwise, it is not at all easy to find out the full details of any particular tariff.

However - you appear to have succeeded - Well Done You! Hopefully, the prices which you have found are the same as the prices on the Tariff Information Label which you received when you signed up.

Have you received a bill yet? If the prices on the bill are different from the prices on the Tariff Information Label, then don’t pay!

Well actually, when I logged in I was told that switching to "Online Fixed Price Energy August 2016" would be cheaper... that is when I compared prices and found it to be about the same price (same unit costs, slightly cheaper gas, slightly pricier leccy).... which led me to discover the error.

Tariff information sheet? Thanks for the tip but the amount of paperwork that comes through this household is unreal... not even Kim & Aggie would be able to find it.

So I have now switched to "Online Fixed Price Energy August 2016"
..... trouble is.... after some more thought, I'm not confident the error is in the old pricing or in the new pricing. Its a discrepancy, I spotted it, those are the facts. Scottish Power tell me the error is with the old tariff information rather than the new.... are they correct this time or is this another error?

You find with these Scottish Power tariffs that there may be more than one Online Fixed Price Energy May 2016.

About a year or so ago Scottish Power had standing charges for gas and Electric at about 34.251p when you took out a contract.

I should know prior to that I was a very low user of gas and suddenly was paying 34.251p a day standing charges ( £125 per year).

Over the months they brought out new tariffs with the Standing Charges reduced to about 27p per day (£100 a year)

Then about the end of last year they brought out new Online Tariffs with standing charges of only 20.55p (£75 a year).

This is the current rate for people taking out contracts for most of this year.

There would have been older Online Fixed Price Energy (say May 2016) that were maybe 2 year contracts and these would be paying the 34p approx.

HaHa - that is probably what SP's call centre people have been told to say! Energy suppliers are very good at making very tiny changes in tariff names in order to hide significant changes in tariff prices. But they can only change the prices on your bill if there has been a change of tariff.

Hi RowaN, I'm sorry for the confusion that's occurred when you called our Customer service centre - I've checked the prices showing on the link you attached to your post and these are the correct prices for the Online Energy Fixed Price May 2016 product, for a 1 Rate Electricity meter in the PES area 20. It looks like it's been an clerical error on the part of the adviser with whom you spoke when they gave you a standing charge of '34.251p' for this product. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
