Regular savings account

Haing read the interest rates for the Yorkshire BS, I'm confused by the 7.1% rate. Is this the rate plus their bonus if you make don't make any withdrawals? or is it inclusive?? If so, should I be opening an account with them now considering that we are already well into the 'financial' year?

Hope the above makes!

Would welcome any advice.

Many thanks

7.10% gross rate is including the bonus, a year is from date of account opening so doesnt matter when during year account is opened. you are allowed 1 withdrawal a year and still get bonus.

Another good thing I like about this account is that you can vary the amount you put in and make as many deposits as you like in a month providing you don't go above the maximum.

I have a standing order for £10. I add various other amounts by BACS during the month as and when I can. This advice was given to me by the young man in the branch who dealt with opening my account.

As I don't live near the branch (1.5 hours drive away), whenever I am in the town I take my passbook in to have it made up.

After reading another thread on here, I see that I can now view my Yorkshire a/c.s online. I registered this week and had my bumph come yesterday. I logged in and managed to view the balance, one thing that disturbed me a little however was a box which proclaimed the gross interest rate, 3/6% !
I presume that they display the rate without the bonus added because they do not know if you will fulfil the conditions to achieve the bonus before the end of your savings year ?
Checking your balance online could save you a 1.5 hours drive TomsMom.
  • Can you apply online or do you need to go into a branch?
Noobie (not so :D) trying to make loads a dosh - please bear with all my questions  Thanks :D

Thanks SteadyEddie, I will see about registering online. I only have the regular saver though, can you do it for just that particular account do you know?

I don't make a specific journey, just when I am that way for something like a hospital appointment or maybe a shopping day ;) . Where we live in North Wales everywhere is approx 1.5 hours drive (even a decent supermarket!) so any event that takes us out of town is treated as a special day out, sometimes I even manage to get hubby to buy me a meal :rotfl:

Edited to say, OK now, I have registered online. Thanks Steady Eddie!

The Fiddler, register online. YBS home page, your society near bottom of page, Help on l.h.s. of page, online services on l.h.s. of page.
TomsMom, I only have a regsave a/c. with them. I think I'll have to move to N. Wales 'cos the doc says I need to get out more.

Thanks - presumably though I will need to take in or send in I.D.

Sorry mate, I thought that your query was concerning viewing your accounts online at Yorkshire, if it was about opening a regsave with them, then you may have to supply I.D. Yorkshire use electronic verification but if there's a prob. then they want to see additional forms of I.D. Details here http://www.ybs.co.uk/savings/verify_identity.jsp
If your query was about viewing your a/c.s online then you do not need to supply I.D.

I made my (online) application for registering for online banking on Sunday 19th, today (Tues, 21st) I received a letter saying online access is now activated and enclosed my ID number. Flippin 'eck, that was quick!!!!!!!!! Can't fault that.
