whats best to re'grout' a patio?

finally pressure washed the ancient patio we inherited when we moved, and its blown out all of the old grout/filling between the slabs. I assumed its best to use kiln dried sand, and brush it in but a friend said use cement as it'll keep the old slabs together better, whats peoples opinions on each method please?

Kiln dried sand is best for block paving. Sand and cement mix is better for your needs, mix it dry and do it on a dry day.
