Ideas for day out with niece & nephew

Knowsley safari park is about an hour away.
Ponderosa petting zoo in Huddersfield is pretty good.
If your nephew is tall you could do the aerial extreme at the trafford centre - he'd need to be at least 1.1m (it says six years but took my very tall 4.5 yo niece, she loved it).
Lego discovery center at the TC is ok, not sure how much a girly girl 10yo would enjoy it though.
Mini golf at the trafford center and then the arcade for bowling and 2p slot machines if the weathers bad.
Or Heaton Park for a picnic if the weather is good, there is a boating lake and a couple of play areas and a petting zoo.0 -

Trentham monkey forest near stoke? It's really lovely and there's some shops there and a big country house estate with gardens. I know you said you didn't like zoos, but they focus on conservation and breeding the monkeys.
Or any of the nearby national trust places- Dunham masses, Lyme Park, Tatton Park, Quarry bank mill. Have a look and see what they have on over the weekend as I think that do kids stuff over the holidays. Even if they don't, you can have a look round some of the 'information' bit and then spend time in the gardens and playgrounds, get an ice cream, have a picnic etc. I know Tatton Park has a petting zoo and I've seen lots of kids at Quarry bank mill0 -
How about the beach, Lythm is just an hour away. My two love it,thought they are 12 and 10 we also took their 5 and 3 year old cousins last time. Few arcades and rides bouncy castle and donkey rides on the beach. Nice chippy near the traffic lights. We also did Southport this summer holidays. I much prefer either to brash Blackpool.
If you want to stay local Play Factore ( under Chill) at the Trafford Centre but it's expensive. Lego land and Sea life at the Trafford Centre.
Not sure where you are, Runamok near Haslingdon is fab.
The viewing park at Manchester airport.
Good ol' picnic in your local park.
Lytham is fab! It's one of my bf's favourite placesI have the feeling the weather won't be so great for the beach this time, and these kids aren't as weather resistant as I am :P
If you don't believe you can ever do it, you never will.0 -

OOo! I forgot about that place! I've never been but looks fab. I did suggest it to my bf but he's worse than I am - sanctuaries he's OK, but anything else out of the natural habitat isn't for him. I'll have to present that idea to the kids as I think they'd like that.
I also saw a place called Chestnut park that have otters. That sounds interesting! If you don't believe you can ever do it, you never will.0 -
It really is fab - we went a few a years ago for my partner's birthday and loved it. The were loads of kids there of different ages so I think it would be a good call. Hope the weather is ok for you. Let us know what you end up doing!0

My niece has consulted with her brother and the response I got was 'he said monkeys because they're [his mum's boyfriend]'s cousins!'
So... Trentham it is! Any idea what the routes through are like? I've advised they bring wellies and weather appropriate coats, but just wondered if I'll be dragging them out of bogs and the like, or if they're pretty well-maintained paths. If you don't believe you can ever do it, you never will.0 -
The paths are pretty good and going through the Monkey forest you have to keep to the pathways, the Monkey's don't stay in their bit though, they run all over the place
We took the granddaughters there earlier this year, you should have seen their faces when two little ones started fighting and rolled down onto the path right in front of them. (Monkeys that is, not the two littlest granddaughters fighting lol) Although............:rotfl:
If you go into the gardens as well, they might need wellies if its been wet.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/110
