Transferring registration number

I've just purchased a registration number for my husbands birthday,
I have the certificate of entitlement, in my name, but my husband as Nominee.
I understand I have to fill in the entitlement certificate to Assign it to my husbands vehicle, but as its for his birthday in a months time, I was hoping to find out how long this takes?
I'm a bit unsure how it works, so if I assign it now, then can I get the number plates made up and give him them for his birthday? Or do I get given a date to swap the number plates over?
I don't think I can get the number plates made up until the vehicle has been assigned anyway, can I?

You can get plates made up with the V750 (or you can get them on Ebay with no paperwork).

You can get the plates made up and give them to him for his birthday. You will need to show the Certificate of Entitlement to the number plate supplier and some form of proof of address.

I got a number plate for Christmas the other year.

My girlfriend got to the stage you are at now, but had the plates made up using the relevant documents from Halfords.

Your husband can then assign the plate to the car and he will receive a letter back confirming that he can display the plates. Shortly after, a new V5 and MOT will be sent out.

Thank you. I'll get the plates made up so he can have them on the day, and just send the v750 off the week before his birthday to get the ball rolling
