    Check their terms - it may allow them to charge interest from some time after death, though additional charges may be on dodgy legal ground as being unlawful penalties out falling foul of unreasonable terms in consumer contracts legislation.
    They may be sensitive to bad publicity, particularly on the latter point. "xxx bank penalising the dead" would make a nice headline.
    It may be worth paying it off if possible to avoid interest. Or maybe make them an offer to pay the amount less any charges now, otherwise they'll have to wait until the house is sold.

    But also check to see if there was any PPI in place
