Connecting Ipod to external speakers?

Hi,
I would like to connect my video ipod (30gb / 5th Gen) to my hifi speakers.
I have some very large, but very high quality speakers from an old hifi but the hifi does not work anymore. The connections speakers need are basically two wires, black and red.
These are the speakers I have: http://www.rowtex.co.uk/sony/xbass5001.jpg
Not really hot on this kinda of techie stuff. Any help please?
Thanks!

I think you'd need some sort of amplification so if your original amp in the HiFi is dead you'd need something else to drive the speakers. The iPods have a standard mini jack so you just need to get a jack to jack lead to connect to an amp usually.0

As stated you'll need an amp with an AUX in, then you'll need a 3.5mm jack to 2x Phono which will look a bit like this usually:

Hi mar and Stubert - can you recommend an amp as I'm not very hot on this subject - I can spend upto £30 - is that enough to get decent sound from speakers. Do you think an ipod docking station can work as an amplifier?0

Unstoppable, I don't know a huge amount of amps sorry. But from Richer Sounds you can get an amp with 4 inputs for £50. It may depend what sort of connections are from your speakers? You could just go in and ask in Richer Sounds if you have one near you as they're always really helpful and knowledge pluss free lollipops and sometimes mugs if you buy something!0

Thanks - yes I have been considering going to down to richer sounds but just wanted to consider all my options before hand by asking around the experts here. Had a look at their website, I think this is the amp you were referring to:

Seems like a nice amp but not being an expert I'm not sure how good sound quality will be.. do you have one of these? If so hows the sound quality?
My speakers have this kind of connection by the way:
