Hi
The powder tray on my washing machine is broken. Can I put washing powder directly into the washing machine barrel?
I know you can get tablets, but they are more expensive.
Thanks

In a word - No - the powder clings to items and they will either have white bits or bleached bits when the come out of the machine. If the drawer is damaged does the water not leak out?0

Thanks Grunnie. The drawer is jammed, and has been like that for ages. No water leakage as far as I'm aware.
Looks like I will just have to stick with the tablets.
Thanks

I put the powder straight into the machine - have done for the last 20 years and never had any issues with doing it!xxx Nikki xxx0

In reply to Nikki, what type of powder do you use. And what quantity?
Thanks

What about using washing liquid? I seem to remember it comes with a dosing ball you put into the drum, and the good thing is that unlike tablets, you can put precisely the amount you need, not what the manufacturer thinks you should use.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I'd take it apart and try to fix it. However, I don't see any problems with placing the powder in the drum first and brushing it so it falls through the holes in to the outer drum - which is where it would be immediately washed to anyway if in the drawer. Then just fill up with clothes and wash like normal.0

I second the laundry gel. It's all I ever use, goes straight in the drum and you can easily vary the amount you put in.
I get ours from poundland, it's 1L and does about 30 washes and it's surprisingly good.0 -
I think I'll try the washing gel from poundland.
Thanks
