+1 on that. Manufacturing is a complex business - and often not perfected until the last few of a particular model roll off the end of the production line. Yet, because they represent an older generation of cars, they tend to be undervalued whether new or second hand.0 -
Many jobs on cars the parts are cheap, the cost is paying people to do the work.
Learning to do at least some of the jobs is one way to reduce the cost of running cars.
It's getting harder to do the diagnostics and some parts are expensive and the investment in tools facilities get pricy.
(you get fed up of changing brakes on the street in the rain in the cold)
Have a root around the owners forums for the major problems on any short listed car.0 -
All subjective, but my Lupo V reg cost £1000 and is an SDI diesel. I bought it on 92k miles.
2 years later, it's now done 150k miles, it averages 69MPG to the gallon, is very easy to service, has a super reliable engine and has only had to have the rear shock absorbers replaced since I bought it. Bargain.0 -

30,000 miles a year in an SDi Lupo? I salute you.;)0 -
I'd love a nice Jag, amazing how cheap you can get them. Just the running costs scare me, lol!
Why? The running costs aren't *that* high, depending on mileage. Get a V8, convert it to LPG and you'll have a nice car with the running costs of a standard hatchback. Mechanical issues aside :j0
