Insurance- no option for modification?

Hello all

I'm about to buy my first car insurance, done the sensible thing and shopped around, got quotes from all comparison websites and the ones that aren't listed. One of the comparison sites however does not give the option for a modification I'm having done to my car today - parking sensors. Having them seems to have bumped my insurance up on every other site by £200 as it has an option for them but this particular site does not give the option to add parking sensors as a mod.

I'm tempted to go with it as it's the cheapest, £200 is a lot! But would it make a difference if I don't declare the mod on the car?

Ta!

Why don't you find your best quote online, then go old school and pick up a telephone. Call the insurance company and discuss it with them. Then there will be no risk or a void or cancelled policy when they find out if you claim.

Have an accident and the undeclared modification is noticed could result in cover being revoked.

That would be very unlikely for parking sensors, and could be appealed to the ombudsman. They might refuse to repair the bumper after a smash though, as it will cost more.

I'd not even consider something like that being declared to my insurance company.

Is this an aggregator site (eg confused.com) or an actual sellers site (eg Aviva or AA)?

For the former when you click through to the sellers site you have to check the data has transferred correctly and at that point you can add the mod.

If its the sellers site then is it a case of you can add mods but no option for parking sensors or simply there is no mods option at all? If the former then phone them, if the later then the chances are they dont insurer modified vehicles in which case dont touch them.

Its a bad idea to try and "get away" with not declaring them as at a minimum itll be a headache if you ever need to claim.

For modified cars I would suggest using a broker.

I have used Chris Knott and Adrian Flux.

Both my car and my wife's car are insured through Chris Knott at the moment.

Are you retro fitting them supplied by the car maker or are you using a DIY kit?

Both were horrendous for my modded car, wanted over £2k -v- under £500 from Aviva

The best advice for everyone is always to shop around and dont believe that one or two companies are universally the best for anyone

It's through confused.com. I think I'm definitely going to tell them about them after everyone's advice, thank you :):):)
