I have been offered a little part time job helping out a friend who has a building business. He wants me to enter his paperwork onto Excel (his previous helper has died).
A little extra money would come in very handy and although I can type and did manual book-keeping many years ago I have never used Excel.
Would I be out of my depth or is this relatively easy to master? Also are there any on-line tutorials? I've done a google search but they seem to lead me towards books and Amazon.
Thanks.

I started to use Excel but found it a bit confusing.... I just googled Excel Tutorials and found THIS it looks quite promising and I am going to have a go at learning from this tutorial myself........#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Tanith, first of all many thanks for your help. At first glance your link looked very confusing. Perhaps I'll take another look tomorrow with a clear head!
I'd be really embarrassed to admit to my friend that I can't do it.0 -

if you are just entering data into a developed workbook, you should have no problems. It depends on what he wants you to do. I am an excel instructor, so if you have any problems, feel free to pm me, or post your question on google groups. the people there are very friendly and as long as you put you are new at excel they'll treat you nice!Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!0 -

Find out what version of Excel he is using on the computer, then i would recommend the Dummies Guides on Amazon (Very good prices) you can re-sell it when your finished on eBay as an example.
Buffyslay's offer could be a godsend for you!0 -
The tutorial looked ok - just work through it using Excel as you go rather than try take it all in without practice. If you get stuck, plenty of us use Excel so just shout (not too loud in the mornings though...).
The manual book-keeping will help - just think of it as a manual ledger, only instead of using a calculator and writing things in boxes, you can enter the calculation and it'll do it all for you.0 -
The link above is a good starting point,
also pop down you local library and borrow a beginners book on Excel
and finally you could do a local course but it's probable best to see what your friend expects you to do first, for courses though on the link below type in excel and your postcode and it'll where locally where you can do courses for Excel, I know in my area alot of colleges and secondary schools put on these type of courses for adults (I think they get brownie points of the goverment for doing them
)

I'd recommend "... for Dummies" as well - I'm a IT Tech' and I use them!The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I'll 3rd the "....for Dummies" books. I'm a (so-called here at work) Excel expert. These are excellent books and it's where I started. As has already been mentioned above, if your typing things into a pre-done spreadsheet, Excel will do most of the work for you. If not, feel free to PM me with any questions and I'll help out as best I can.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0
