Selling e-tickets on eBay - am I protected?

Options
Hello. I bought some festival tickets for my parents many months ago but they've since realised that they can't go.

So I listed them on eBay and was lucky enough to sell them for about 60% of face value earlier this evening. The buyer has paid by PayPal and I'm very happy. I just need to send them now.

But here's my concern: they're e-tickets, so they're essentially just .pdf files with barcodes on... which means they have very little security. Now, I haven't shared the tickets or barcodes with anybody else, so I know they'll definitely scan, but what's to stop the buyer from saying that they didn't, and then claiming their money back through PayPal?

I've never sold tickets on eBay before so I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

Festival tickets are not allowed to be sold on ebay so you have no protection, instead they should have been listed on stubhub (ebays site for ticket sales)

You are relying 100% onth honesty of the buyer...

Personally I would cancel the transaction and list them on stubhub or scarletmist.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thanks for the replies. I listed them in the tickets section on eBay. It's still there, but it does recommend buying from StubHub (it's just a banner at the top of the search results but you can ignore it and buy from eBay instead)

I don't think they should have a tickets section if they're not going to cover you when you buy/sell something in it.

I tried to list on StubHub and GetMeIn but there was no entry for the festival in question so I couldn't sell my tickets on there.

Concert, festival, sports, theatre and comedy tickets must be listed on StubHub.co.uk, eBay’s dedicated ticket marketplace. For other types of tickets, such as cinema, experiences, or theme parks, the

The category is there for the few exceptions to the no ticket rule.

Also are you 100% sure the tickets you sold are allowed to be resold? many tickets are not and that's why listing isn't posisble on some of the reselling sites.

Oops, I didn't read all the T&Cs. I just searched for another ticket for the same event (to get an idea of prices) and clicked "sell one like this"

The small print on the tickets did state that they weren't to be resold, but I thought they all said that, and they're my tickets - I can do what I want with them. And it's not like I've profited from them.

I tried to list on StubHub but there was no entry for the festival so I couldn't list tickets for it.

If festival tickets aren't covered by seller protection, does that mean they're also not covered by buyer protection? That'd be great because I know the tickets work but I'm worried that the buyer may claim otherwise and claw his money back through PayPal.

I suppose it's all moot now anyway because I've posted the tickets (and emailed them)

    Fingers crossed!

For future reference as you don't seem to be grasping it for now, if a ticket says it cannot be resold, it means it should not be resold. Just because you have bought the ticket doesn't mean it is yours to do as you like.

Not being listed on the main selling sites is a big clue that the re selling is a problem. Many festivals require ID to use the tickets, a move to cut down on third party sales.

I sold tickets on ebay without realising too.. there ended up being an issue with it though and he buyer claimed a full refund.. so Yes if they are asked for ID & refused entry or the tickets dont scan then you will loose your money.
