My credit file is still showing £200 that I owed to barclays about 2 years ago. I paid this off through a debt collection agency. Called up barclays and they can't find my account. They say there is nothing they can do without a sort code and account number, but I destroyed this card years ago. They are telling me to get in contact with the credit places like equifax etc. Whats the best corse of action?
Many Thanks

Getting in contact with the credit places like Equifax?"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0

Either raise a dispute via the Credit Report Agencies the account is registered on or speak to the DCA that added it to your file.
I'd add that it's unlikely, after only two years, that Barclays have wiped all their data but it doesn't really matter I suppose, the DCA is now the data controller.0 -
You may need to go into a branch with ID, but there is no way they've deleted the information. The account information will be held (even if closed) for at least 5-7 years (for regulatory reasons).
They presumably have closed the account, and its possible it won't be on the standard system as a result, but they can call up a main office where it can be looked up.Peter
