  • yes it is , however when you click on this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 it comes up green on the explorer bar to say its safe .

upon starting the d/load you are asked which country you want it for

so I can use this as an installation disc at a later date if I need to reinstall windows 10 as a fresh install?

    Thanks

  • yes as a re install!

however if your machine uses the latest uefi bios , download the iso file and "burn" with rufus

I decided to pull down an ISO although I don't expect to use one as I take image backups of my machines.

A word or warning to the unwary - if you ask for an ISO of Home in both 32 + 64 bit it won't fit on a single layer disk.

Have most of us not moved onto USB drives over DVDs?
  • well I thought we had , however I notice that if you right click over an iso in win 10 , it gives you the option to burn , but only to disc , not pendrive

Well they offer the W7 tool
  • sorry I should have said that better , when you right click over ANY iso , not just the win series , the option is only to burn to cd/dvd and not to extract and place on the now universal pendrive

A USB drive costs maybe £5 and a DVD-R maybe 20p so I chose to burn to DVD. Plus at least one of my machines won't boot from a pen drive USB although strangely enough it will from a USB DVD drive (or was that the other way round?).
  • so you are not going to struggle setting up the boot order with uefi on that machine then ?
