Paypal and cheque surcharge?

It has been quite a while since the days of surcharges for paypal but I came across this on a sellers listing -
I prefer bank transfer and will give the winner £5 discount if payment is made via bank transfer.
I also accept cheques and PayPal
Is this allowable or is it another way of surcharging for paypal (and cheques)?

It's actually allowed, if a bit cheeky. I applaud their initiativeMy TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I like it! Might start doing that.....:j30/7/10:j

There isn't any rule stopping an Ebayer from doing that....
The only thing is what kind of protection would you have by doing a BT?0 -
None......0

I take it they're also selling expensive items if the discount they're offering is £5. You need to weigh up whether you'd rather risk losing £100+ and save a fiver or pay full price but at least have some protection.0

Yes they were selling an expensive phone, I certainly wouldn't do a BT or a cheque for that matter. Phone sellers often try dodgy ideas.0

Indeed they do...i've heard many stories about people getting ripped off on Ebay when buying mobiles...0 -
thats not a surcharge its an incentive. it would only be a surcharge if paypal users would be asked to pay more than the winning bid + p&p charges combined.
i offer a discount for BT's for all my mobile phones and have had quite a few take me up on the offer recently.0
