ISA for someone else's baby?

Good Morning!
My friend is having her little boy Christened and our group of friends wanted to club together and start a savings account for him.
Is this something we can do without her permission as it would be nice for it to be a surprise for them as well?
I suspect not but I can't seem to find a hard and fast 'yes or no'!
Many thanks!!
Laura

If you cannot set it up then perhaps all gather the money up and put it together in an envelope with the wishes of a savings account to be opened and hope your friend does this.0

A junior ISA can be opened only by "Parents or guardians with parental responsibility".

Ask the parents if they are going to open a JISA for their child - you can then contribute.
One of you could buy a Christening card to be signed by you all and the cash/cheque(s) put inside?
