My debt free journey!

Well here is my diary, I have been accumulating debt for around 3 years now - a credit card when I was 18 to establish a credit score soon turned into 24k of debt (CC, Loans, Cars etc). My LBM was in April 15. Most of the CC debt was from when we both lost our job and had to take any work ( bridging the gap as only thought it was short term) however it took my hubby over a year to get back to what he was earning and Im only just getting back into full time work again now. The car was when we had to get a bigger more economical car (looking back in hindsight 13k on a car was extravagant) and some came from our wedding June14. Iv made some headway - debt is currently sitting at 22k but today was the last payment of my husbands ring so an extra 26.21 per month to go towards other debts :j Im hoping to be below 20k by my LG birthday end of January. Cantwait to be debt free

  • Ok so as a treat we went to Loch Lomond yesterday - about 100m away. This was to celebrate the final payment for my husbands wedding ring. Had a lovely day and it has really motivated me to get back into save mode and paying off my debt. Im also contemplating going back to full time 40 hours which will make us slightly better off :-)
  • Ok so back online now after working the weekend. Off on holiday to scotland in 4 weeks so looking forward to that - looked online at getting some clubcard points exchanged for vouchers so there is 1 day out and meal out sorted :-)
  • Iv been off here for about 1 month now - work, busy etc however Iv noticed my determination leave me and I racked up 500 on my cleared CC! On the plus side debt is now starting to look alot better. I estimate by April it will be about 18k which is alot better than the 24k it was this April. I have also changed mortgage deals so thats £70 saving every month. I need a new laptop as this one is dying and has no buttons left on it (kids) however I cant justify hundreds of pounds on a laptop. I need to keep focused
  • If you ask around your local area, you may find a techy type person who can revamp your laptop for a reasonable cost. The buttons shouldn't be difficult to sort out and techy types can work magic with software — it doesn't cost anything to ask what they would be able to do and how much it would cost ;)
    Rainy day fund — 210/1000 Emergency fund — 1019/1500
    Loan — 424/19,224 = 2.2% Fun fund: 1/100 Credit card balance — 0
  • Ok so I have been off here since Sept! I have since been working more hours at work so less time to spend online. Debt is still at 22k however I have had a kitchen fitted and I have had some repairs done on my car. CC are now all 0 as I got a loan that was cheaper than my cc payments. Feeling alot more positive about our situation now as mortgage payments are cheaper and some of our HP has now finished so more money left over per month :-)
