We are staying at the Ibis in Coquelles, it's about £50 per nite and has loads of good reviews on trip advisor!! We are going for bank holiday and booked the ferry through the eastenders site for 5% discount.

May be worth a try - may see u there!!!!

For reduced price crossings with P&O go to their home page, put in your trip requirements and enter rm0104 as a promotional code. Worked out as £24 for a day return for me.

Can anybody recommend anywhere to go with my kids (6 & 10) on a daytrip to France that doesn't involve shopping?
  • Just managed to book hotel and ferry deal got it all in for £116.17 wow well chuffed lol travelling from dover to dunkerque hotel for 2 nights. Am one happy bunny :)) decided to chose dunkerque because its not to far from Calais for the Vino lol and not too far from Belgium for the cigarettes lol

thanks for the discount code for P&O i had a look and could have got ferry crossing for £64 return but looked on the web site a ferry to, and it worked out cheaper with discounts to get hotel and ferry togther on one booking rather than booking travel and accomodation seperately. ;)
:T This site is great! Thanks to Martin Lewis & everyone who participates and helps so many people! Without you all, where would we be ??:T

    Can I say....

For cheap wine - Tesco and Sainsburys were the best!!

Gonna go at the end of October to stock up!!!!

Not like I've got a drink problem!!!

  • I'm going over to boulogne for a holiday but as I am taking the ferry I thought I would stock up at the hypermarkets too. I know about the wine and the beer etc, but is there anything else I should be stocking up with on the continent as it is cheaper than over here?

BTW I bought my ferry tickets from Speed ferries, it's costing £48 return and we're mostly going to be staying in premier classe hotels (about 32ish euros per night per room), their a little bit more than Formule 1 but you get en suite with them. That and the parc asterix tickets bought using the clubcard points makes ours a lovely money saving holiday!
  • Other silly things I bring back that are cheaper real coffee, rice, herbs, frmage frais, cheese, cashews, little pots of pate (their own shop make are ok),olive oil, party paper plates, garlic sausage, own brand cooking chocolate, cordials and olives! bottled waters cheaper too but that takes up wine space. The daytrippers site often has vouchers on it too for the Auchan supermarket my neighbour and I seem to be the only ones that use them so we print lots and leave the extra ones lying in the appropriate isles if we cant use them! I find the Sainsburys store no better than here as they dont have the same special offers eg buy BOGOF etc depends what type of wines you are after I suppose. Petrol/diesal are cheaper there too .
