Bank of Scotland

On this link Martin mentions Bank of Scotland offers good interest...

A friend who has already maxed out Santander 123 and Club Lloyds wanted to put some money in Bank of Scotland but during the online application there didn't seem to be any branches in London.... are they only in Scotland? Do you need to visit a branch with proof of identity like with Lloyds?

It would have been handy if this was mentioned on the above MSE link if it is for people in Scotland only.

There's always the chance you'll have to visit branch with ID...with any bank if they can't ID you electronically via the credit search.

All my BoS accounts were opened without the need to visit branch...thankfully, as the nearest one is 250 miles away!

Do you have a Lloyds account and did they ask you to go in with ID?

Yes and no, in that order.

I've only ever been asked to present ID once when opening another account, and that was Nationwide...despite being an existing customer. I didn't bother (it might have jeopardised some Quidco cashback) and nothing ever came of it!

I do have a solid credit file though, with plenty of accounts and good stability, ie time at address, bank, employer, etc...so maybe that's why I never fail electronic ID checks.

Ok thanks. Annoying for my friend that Lloyds want him to go in to a branch.

If you need to visit a branch for any reason as part of the process then you can go into a Halifax branch.
