Hi
Just came home to find that i'm not getting any hot water. Then checked gas boiler (Baxi non combi) it was apparently on, the flame was on, even resetting it didn't help. Circulation pump is also working fine but i know something is wrong also by lack of "rumbling noise"...also tried switching on central heating, again radiators didn't warm up. Could anyone advise what the problem could be? I have an indirect feed to the bolier.
Thanks in advance

Hi
What 'rumbling noise ' do you mean? Would it be from the boiler ,as in the fan running when it first fires up?

Hi
The rumbling noise usually starts straightaway and comes from the the airing cupboard where the hot water cylinder and a lot of pipework is located...i've never really noticed the rumbling coming from the boiler itself which is located in the garage, so i guess the rumbling is probably to do with the trapped air in the pipes....but today no rumbling, no hot water, even though i can hear the circulation pump whirring in the airing cupboard. The boiler is not that old, it was installed at the same time when my house was built about 4 years ago.

Hi
That would suggest you don't have any water in the pipes to create a noise, have a look at the F&E tank in the roof(?) and see if it's full of water. Unless it's a sealed system. Has the boiler fired at all? Is there any heat in the pipework near it?

Hi
Ok just had a look at both loft tanks, they are both full of water. Boiler does actually fire up but i cannot feel any heat in surrounding pipework. Also the gas meter is moving VERY slowly not briskly which is usually the case when the bolier is working properly. any ideas?0 -
My final suggestion is...
Is the pump actually pumping? It might be humming but not spinning. If it's a Grundfos remove the large central screw and with a small flat blade screwdriver turn the impeller. If it has a large black nut in the centre undo it , the nut is conected directly to the impeller so turning the nut will turn the impeller. Both will leak water so have an old towel handy.
Turn off the power to the system or be prepared to have the screwdriver or nut 'snatched' out of you fingers.
