should be a write off

Hi All,

Need some advise on a what I think should be a write off.

My car a Jeep grand cherokee x plate had a light roll and landed on its side but never went completely over, it had paint damage all down the off side, and panel damage to the wing and damage to the bumper, aslo both wheels were damaged and both tyres were flat.

The insurance companys accident centre are going to repair the car, and its only worth about 5k.

Should it be a write off ?

What can I do about it, because I dont want to get back in the car with my family.

  • Its impossible to say ithout more info however the insurance company will go with the most economical way.

Generaly if the repair is less than 60-65% of the cars market value then it is repaired. If your not happy there is little you can do other than sell it after repair - they will retain the right to deal with your claim as they deem correct

Sounds like relatively light damage. No serious structural damage....why don't you want to get back in it with your family? There's no guarantee that anything you replace this with hasn't been in a more serious accident!
  • Generally write offs are when cost of repair is more than value of the car or 60% or more of car is deemed as damaged.

You could always get payout from insurer and repair yourself if you wish to keep the car. With a mot and signed engineers report, you should be able to reinsure the car again. This should be confirmed with underwriter of course as some may require more information.

They don't want to keep the car, Glycerine, if you read the original post more closely.

I would go with what the others said - if you aren't comfortable driving the car, sell it. The insurers aren't obliged to give you a write off settlement if they are confident the car can be safely repaired.
