Hi everyone
Me and a friend put some new compoents into my computer yesterday: replaced the motherboard, processor, RAM and added a SSD and new HDD. We also installed Win7. After a couple of hardware issues (cables not being shoved on tight enough) everything went fine.
I downloaded Office 2013 (as part of a deal I've got from work) and Firefox, and while making my new bookmarks Firefox quit (and semi-restored) multiple times, but it's been doing that to me at work a lot anyway.
And then Windows restarted itself randomly. I started in normal mode like it suggested. Then I tried to update it and got the following error:
Windows cannot search for updates: code C80003FA (encountered unknown error)
I know there must be loads of updates. The disk comes with SP1 but that's all, of course. I tdid prompt me to update Windows Update at first which I did and that was, apparently, successful.
After some fruitless attempts and countless unpromted restarts, I tried reinstalling Win7 from the disk. Both the 'update' and 'clean install' failed, but I can't remember the error code I got. It was about not being able to copy a file.
I tried downloading FixIt from MS but that failed. I've tried downloading some Intel RAID drivers but apparently my PC doesn't meet the system requirements (and the person on SevenForums never got back to the person who this also happened to).
Any ideas?

Can you get a different win 7 disc to try ?
if that does the same or you cant I'd put your old hd back and see if its the new hd thats faulty although tbh could be any of the new components0 -

Over-stressed PSU? Badly installed cooler? Aggressive overclocking?0 -
Unlikely on the former and latter: it's not a gaming PC and all I'm trying to do is browse the web; no overclocking has happened and the PSU is well within tolerance (Task Manager says 14% now). The heatsink seems fine, I've had another look at it in the meantime and it's all fitted in as per the instructions (with the push-pins all the way through).I_have_spoken wrote: »Over-stressed PSU? Probably, I'll ask around. I did think that might be worth a shot. As for the other comments, the old disk still should boot into Vista so I might give that a go in the meantime...Can you get a different win 7 disc to try ?
Thankyou so far!0 -
Exact Motherboard details?
Have you tried it with the HDD unplugged?0 -
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/512557 Thought it would be easier to put a link. I think I'll add the rest while I'm here too:NiftyDigits wrote: »Exact Motherboard details?

Old HDD is long discontinued but it was in a Zoostorm PC and 250GB with Vista Home Basic installed.
No, haven't tried with HDDs unplugged: will give it a go when I get home
We haven't used the new HDD at all (it's just a save-to disk, so I haven't included it above) so I'll unplug both at the same time and plug that one in later. Which means I might be back to ask about slaves later! If that even still exists...
Thankyou!0
