Viber security issue

I've used Viber for a while and have it installed on my kids Hudl's so they can freely message/speak to their gran in Spain.
However this morning whilst my wife was message chatting with her friend, in mid chat her friend received a !!!!!! video link, as though my wife had sent it as part of their chat. Thankfully her friend wasn't offended.
After checking my wifes viber account I can't see how this link was sent. Can anybody please advise how this has occurred?
I'm now concerned it could have been my kids account. As a safety precaution, I've deleted Viber from my kids tablets, but this has left them without their contact with gran. So I'm looking for a solution or an alternative (safe) VOIP/message app compatable with the Hudl....

Viber... they say that messages, pictures and videos are encrypted. But it's a lie. It has been exposed in 2014 that Viber messages are not encrypted. WORSE PART: viber keeps unencrypted logs in their servers. Use something else. But before that scan your tablet / phone for malware or viruses. Probably there is an malware or spyware there.
I never used Hudl, but I guess you can use facebook calls.

I wish you a nice Sunday

An interesting read evilhomer. Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking about using fring instead as that allows calls as well as messages and its compatible with tablets. The kids don't have Facebook as they're too young, so this also puts Skype out of the equation...

  • Oh yea you are right with the facebook :) Kids shouldn't have that.
Anyway don't do business or work on any kind of mobile chat. Mobiles are too easy to hack nowadays.
