Home insurance- unoccupied for 3 months

I need to get some contents insurance asap, as I move into my new property ( rented) next week.

The problem is I'm going away for 3 months 2 weeks later and the property will be unoccupied.

Can anyone recommend any companies that will insure me whilst I'm away? I've tried a couple but the maxium unoccupied period is 60 days.

  • I would talk to the landlord. He will presumably have to get buildings insurance while the property is empty and it may possible be able to get his insurer to insure your contents too.; either under his policy or a separate one.

Otherwise, why not put your posessions into storage and rent a place when you come back?
  • All you need to do is have a family or friend stop over for a night while your away and it wont be classed as unoccupied. You yourself dont have to be the one occupying the house.
