HSBC premier New Password request
KNJ_2
Each time I log into my account recently, The web site, once I have logged in using my username, security questions and secure key, then asks me to create a new password.
This seems strange to me, rather like a phising request seeking to steal my data ( and cash)
I work abroad and I was unable to get a satisfactory answer on the phone ( bad connection )
So can anyone confirm that this is standard with HSBC, or should I be worried I have some virus (full anti virus run but nothing detected)
Many thanks in advance

I had to give a new password on my Premier account the other day, first time for seven years0

I think they asked a few years ago, and I just ignored it, and the prompt went away. I had a Rugby ball shaped secure key then.
The new credit card shaped secure key is so tricky, that I am constantly in danger of failing three times. Changing the password will just make it more likely.
I try to make my passwords follow a generation system, so I have a better chance of remembering them.
E.g. *******1, then *******2, *******3, etc.
Since they usually demand a numeric component, you need to put a number in the password anyway.0 -
Is it related to the log-in method where you don't have to use the SecureKey? You're using the SecureKey to log in now, but they've changed it recently so that you don't HAVE to. Can't remember, but that may have required a password change to allow you to use that new service.
Logging in without the SecureKey doesn't give the full range of options, but is good if you're just checking account balances and transactions. The log in page gives the choice of which method you want to use each time.0 -
It is indeed related to the new (optional) login method where you can see your balances and do some limited things but can't set up new payees for instance. You will find once you have set up the password next time you log in it will give you the option of password or secure key login - one more click to get to where you want. If you intend always to use the secure key it seems rather more trouble than it is worth. Note you can also now use your smartphone as a secure key, but if you set this up you can ONLY use your smartphone not either or.0

I have set my secure key to the app/smartphone one (as I detest that hideous gadget).
I can log in either with the secure key from the app/smartphone or without it.
Although I find it easier to just generate the code in my app than remembering the data needed to log in without the secure key.0 -
Many thanks, that removes my worries0
