my desktop actually starts up fast but is lagging on different websites, and or crashes...its so frustrating, PC is quite old and is an XP . I have defragged but clearly am not techy so

First try a sfc to replace any awol system files, then if no go back up your data and reload to factory settings. You'll find it'll probably whizz after that.
