My wife has been using a phone which has been registered in my name for a couple of years. So everyone knows the phone number as hers (despite it being registered to me officially) etc. Now we want to change network, so I just got the PAC code and am about to order a new sim. What I wondered is whether I need to order the new sim in my name or whether that can be ordered in her name. The phone is for her - it was originally in my name as there was a discount for having it in the same name as the house phone.

  • well the first simple question would be : is this new sim going to be a contract sim or a PAYG

It'll be a contract sim, but she wants to keep the phone number

  • ok , thinking about this , your wife takes out a new contract with the new company , and is issued a new number , then after its up and running she submits the PAC code for the old number to be used , to my knowledge a PAC number does not have a user name attached.

the new supplier will want to supply a new number , so do not confuse them at this point

from memory you have 30 days to use the PAC , if you do not , then your contract will continue

So if I've interpretted correctly, you say.

Apply for new contract in her name, then get her to supply the PAC code, don't tell the new company that it used to be in my name and everything should work.

  • yes get your wife to get a new phone , then after "x" days she rings them with the pac code (old number)

code lasts about 31 days (I think) , and if you do not use it , they will not cancel your old contract , but will continue to bill you

    Will that really work...? :-/

What I'd do would be to contact the phone company and ask them to change the name on the account so it's in your wife's name. Then ask for a new PAC.
  • 1:however the OP has stated that he has already obtained the PAC code

2: they would only change the name IF a new full term contract was taken out
