CITB help desperately needed

I don't have a copy of what I sent them, but I have all the paper work to work the figures out again, as it was what my husband was paid and what we paid sub contractors0

First thing is to file an interim defence to the claim.
This has to be done asap or they get a CCJ.
The CITB are by most accounts a parasitic set up that force small business to pay them random amounts via threats and intimidation on the basis they will use it to train workers, which is bull, they use it to pay beyond wildest dream wages to themselves.
They charge workers for services like CSCS cards, well over the odds.
I would put in a interim defence of that the levies is not payable or enforceable by statutory instrument as the wage bill is below £79.999 PA.
That a expanded defence including accounts will be filed duly.
At present you need to stop the clock on an automatic default ccj by filing and interim defence.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Did you submit your levy returns online or on paper? I presume that if you did online it allows you to see what you submitted, if you did it on paper I hope you kept a copy. Is there anything on the returns that might lead them to conclude that you are liable to pay the levy?

I sent paper ones in! I don't see how they think we owe this, it has just really worried me, hopefully I wrote it down somewhere, but I won't be hard to work it out again.0 -
In court they only have the Legalisation to use so tracking down what act allows them to bully small companies and having a read will help and keep the judges focus firmly .I do Contracts, all day every day.0

So do I take it from this that you didn't actually make a copy of the forms before you sent them in? The problem could be as simple as you getting two numbers the wrong way round, so if you had copies you could check them. Might be worth asking CITB to make copies for you.
And in future copy or scan any official submissions completed by hand, or do the submission online.0 -

Are you operating as a limited company?
What do you mean by "what my husband was paid"? Do you mean what he invoiced clients?
When you say "sub contractors", were they all labour-only?
Of course, if turnover was less than £80K it doesn't make a difference to your not being liable to pay the levy but pas the potential to make a difference in the future.0 -
Phone CITB on Monday. That amount and the fact it's now gone so far suggests they do not have your actual levy returns. They will be able to tell you if they are outstanding. It is a legal requirement you complete them, even if under the threshold figures of 79,999. It is the wage of all employees you need to enter, if your husband is not running ltd company then his wage is nil as he is not on PAYE. If ltd company then his P60 will show the wage. I think you will need your husbands details going back a few years, 2012/13 and 2013/14.
If your sub contractor is not working on a labour only basis then ignore him for CITB purposes.
Are you sure this demand is a recent one and not an old letter you have found?0
