Household income is at £25,000. Would i be refused for Income Based JSA?

Hi there, i'm planning on claiming JSA in the next few weeks but i have to say i'm slightly concerned if i'll be eligible for JSA.

I'm a 26 year old single male and recently finished at University. I've not made enough NI contributions to be eligible for contribution based JSA, so it's the income based JSA i will have to look to claim.

My question would be: does my household income affect my chances of being accepted? My Dad earns around £15000 per year, whilst my brother earns £11000 per year. Is this something which could affect my chances?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

It is only your income and savings that are taken into account.
  • It's only if you are in a couple that household income is taken into account.

Hi there, thanks so much for your response.

Are you sure it is only my income? As you can see from this link, it does state household income is taken into account https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance/eligibility

'Your household income can affect how much income-based JSA you get. Income includes money from pensions, earnings and savings (if you have more than £6,000). Pensions and earnings can affect the amount of contribution-based JSA you get.'

Also from the searches i have made on google, there seem to be a few cases in where if the claimants partner is in full time work and earning more than 20k. They are often refused.

Argh this is all quite perplexing. I guess i will only find out once i apply.

Household means people that are dependant upon you in this instance.

You are not however 'living together as man and wife' with your father or brother, as the law states.
A household means any partners you may have in this case.
