Sorry to hear about your dad.
Staying with Aviva will probably be the simplest option at a time when there will be a lot of other things on your minds. The one thing I'm not sure about is where you say "transfer dad's NCD to her", NCD is specific to a person so it can't be transferred to anyone else, if she doesn't have a NCD of her own then it's very likely that Aviva will require an additional premium compared to what your dad would have paid for the remainder of the policy.
Thanks - I was going from references earlier in the thread to transfer of NCD, but had wondered about that.0 -

You are correct that NCD is specific to a person. Some insurers aren't heatless though. Aviva simply changed my dads policy to mums name when he died.0 -

Where do you get this from?
No.
In the circumstances it is very unlikely that Aviva will follow this route.
It is the norm in circumstances like this that the NCD gets transferred to the surviving spouse.0 -

OK, well I stand corrected. I've never heard of anything other than NCD being attached to the person who earned it but I'm happy to be corrected. Will it just be for the duration of an existing policy or be permanently transferred?0 -
Permanently.0

Most insurance companies where the main driver has passed away will transfer the NCD to the named driver especially if they gave been with that company did some time. Aviva are one of the better companies in these circumstances0

Just thought I'd update the thread in case anyone in the future wanted to see how Aviva dealt with it. Well, they were superb.
The policy will remain in Dad's name until it expires next April. Mum is lead driver, and they transferred Dad's NCD to her without a quibble. Obviously, come next April they will need to do a new quote in Mum's full details.
They also cancelled the marketing without prompting, and added me as a named driver. The admin fee was waived.
On the new car front, that insurance will take place when the free insurance runs out in a few days. The admin fee for that was covered by the reduction in premium, so again no charge.
It took about 15-20 minutes on the phone in total, as there was a lot to cover, but the person was competent and I didn't need to explain what we wanted to do more than once.
Many thanks to all who contributed to this thread.0
