Laptop for university

Hi all,
Three years ago you gave me great advice for getting my son a laptop for university. Well, now it's my daughter's turn to go and I'm looking to get her a laptop under £400. I've heard that Lenovo are quite good. Which other brands are producing good laptops for that price? Knowing how my son used his machine, it will be used for internet mostly (they all watched programmes through it), and maybe the odd essay.
