Driving Licence points check

Options
Hello everyone.....

My car is due to go in to EssexFord on Tuesday and I have a loan car booked. They told me today that I need to give them my plastic driving licence and my national insurance number so they can do a licence check........

I challenged this saying that I didn't think it was right them asking me for my national insurance number. And that I could supply them the code for them To check my licence online.

do I have to give them what they want.... If I have to give my NI number then they can continue to have access to my personal data at any time they want. If I give them the code it's a one time use and a timed use.

Who is right.......

Cheers Gary

Give them the code. Thats what it for. Suggest they use the system as designed.

    https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

You can use this service to:
    • view your driving record, eg vehicles you can drive
    • create a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, eg a car hire company

Generate the code. They can only use it once but they can save or print the information as well.

You'll probably find that they are sick to death of having to expalin to customers how they get the code and have decided that the easiest course is to ask everybody for licence no & NI and do it themselves.
They'll probably be glad that somebody knows how to use the system and provides them either with a printout or a check code

OP, are you sure they've asked for you NI number and not you current insurance policy number?

Are you going onto their insurance or your own?

    I would think so.

The only information needed to access driving licence info is

    1. Driving Licence Number
    2. NI number
    3. Postcode on driving licence
