Going to Gumbet, Turkey

I wanted to know if anyone here had ever stayed at the Siesta Beach Apartments in Gumbet.

I have never been to Turkey before and would appreciate if anyone who has been at these apartments would advise me as to their quality.

I will be going with my wife and 16 year old daughter.

many thanks

samsyerman

    Hi Sam,
Can't help with the hotel i'm afraid but if i'm looking to travel to a hotel i always use http://holidays-uncovered.com find on the list where it is you're going and look through for your hotel.

I've never booked anything without checking it out here first.

    Happy hunting

    Hi Me again,
Just had a quick look for you, there are quite a lot of ratings on there, most of them are really good, here's one from there.

    Siesta Beach Apartments - Gumbet

Operator and Date: (Direct Holidays) Direct Holidays - June 2003

Opinion submitted in July 2003 by : Gareth and Lisa - Cardiff (22, 21)

    Resort Rating: Excellent

    Accommodation Rating: Very Good

    My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Having never fancied going to Turkey we were not particularly looking forward to going...however we were very pleasantly surprised and have had a fantastic time!

I would recommend this resort and accomodation to just about anyone - except for those with walking difficulties as the resort is on a hill and the accomodation has lots of stairs.

The best thing about Gumbet was the sheer friendliness of the locals - they were so helpful and willing to talk to you. apart from the odd one or two in the local shops (the shopworkers can be quite pushy but just so long as you're friendly and firm with them theyre usually fine).

at the siesta beach the staff are all fantastic - they work hard for you and they really do join in with the fun of your holiday. mustafa and ozzy have a special mention -having read the reviews i had some idea that they would be womanisers but not really - the way i saw it was the girls/women were very friendly towards them and they just played up to it a little as most 20something men would!

the apartments are kind of split in two - the top pool/bar and bottom pool/bar. we spent all our time at the bottom so cant comment too much on the staff there. the bottom pool is very much for the young at heart and those who want to be entertained!

the worst thing about the apartments was the quality of the maid service. we were left 1 toilet roll every 3 days (you could get extra at reception but not the point), no soap was left for the last 6 days, beds were only made when the sheets were changed, they didnt wash any dishes, etc, etc.

turkish night at the bottom bar is a must, also do the boat trip that is offered by mustafa - there are only 14 places (once a week) so book it quick! the dedeman water park is a good day out - try the kamikaze if youre feeling brave!! trips to ephesus and pammukale were available but the coach takes more than 3 hours each way so consider that before booking.

take a trip to bodrum and tegutries markets - both are better value than shopping in gumbet, although gumbet is very cheap all the same. catch the dolmus bus service to both markets.

eating out was a pleasure - in particular China Red Town and Millenium. service was out of this world and the food was very impressive also! try the mixed grill at millenium especially!

i could write all day about this great place but i recommend you find out how good it is for yourselves!

HTH have a fab time

I haven't stayed in those apartments but I've been to Gumbet and had a lovely time. The locals are the friendliest people I've ever met and made us feel welcome wherever we went.

Don't forget to take a plug for your sink as they don't use them in Turkey ;)

I was in Bodrum a few years, near Gumbet. Gumbet is quieter and more family orientated.
Turkey is a great place and tends to be friendly (even in crappy Bodrum). Try to visit Camel Beach (a short dolmus ride away)- great beach and very quiet.

I have been to turkey about 10 times. I went to gumbet 5 years ago and sorry to say I didnt like it very much i comparison to other parts. I felt it was full of young drunk people and I was only 25 myself then. However the people are nice and friendly but again the beach wasnt very clean where we were. Theres loads to do though and if you can go on a boat trip. they are out of this world.
