Post interview manners

I have had about 9 job interviews within the last 6-7 weeks. Only 3 of them have been courteous enough to let me know I was unsuccessful. 2 were phone calls within 4/5 days and the third was an email after 3 days.
The other 6 have not let me know the outcome at all. I know for certain that two of them have appointed someone, so it is not just them taking their time replying.

Is it me, or is this just rude? it only takes a few minutes to type an email or make a phone call...

Of course it's rude, but it's par for the course these days I'm afraid. Perhaps it tells you something about the culture at those companies.
  • I once had an interview for an NHS job. Never heard back! I senr them an email saying thanks for your time but I don't think this is the job for me! No reply.

Can't hurt to email, asking for feedback - they may have overlooked you!

Yes I once had an NHS interview where they didn't bother to let me know. I emailed asking if it was an oversight but got no reply. I thought it was pretty disgusting.

That is really rude, unless you are told at the interview that if you don't hear back within x times, it is because you haven't been successful (even that is a coward approach, but not as rude!)

I think companies who cannot be bothered to contact candidates after interview are disgraceful - certainly not a company I would want to work for.

They should be named and shamed.

When I helped with graduate recruitment, we had 100s of CVs, and after contacting those we wanted for interview, the rest were sent an email (mass email with everyone on BCC list - would take too long for individual ones!) saying thank you for your application, but they were not successful this time.

Those who were interviewed and not successful were went a personal email with feedback or phoned.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Totally agree with all the comments about bad manners from interviewers after being interviewed . It is disgusting:mad:

If it's the other way around when interviewee's don't turn up at interviews, you will get the interviewers coming out on this forum spitting out their dummies stating that people just don't want to work:eek:

Thank you for all the comments.

I have emailed 4 of the companies - two were to a personal account for the interviewer.

I have had no answer from any of them...

i am glad it is not just me that thinks it is rude.

I had a friend who recently went for a job and made it to the 4th (yes 4th!) interview. Apparently it was between him and someone else. They never bothered to contact him. After going for 4 interviews you'd think they could muster up 5 mins to tell him he wasn't successful. Disgusting behaviour.

Bit of an NHS theme! To slightly redress, I work in the NHS and we wouldn't dream of not candidates know the outcome.
