I recently bought a jvc everio camcorder which came with power dvd/ power producer/ power director software which i've installed to my pc.
I have tried using this software to transfer the footage on my camcorder to pc, but its not very user freindly, i am aware that I can simply open the harddrive file on camcorder and drag and drop to files on pc, but would prefer to use a specific programme that recognises the camcorder as a device and allows me to pick which footage i want to drag and drop.
does anyone know of such programmes, preferably freeware, i'm about to look on download.com but if anyone can advise what to use / steer clear from that would be great.

Assuming you're using a Windows-based PC you should be able to use Windows Movie Maker to do this.
WMM comes bundled free with Windows-based PCs.0 -
I've not found anything 'simple' i'm afraid.
The only way that'll happen is if you buy a Mac of some description (a Mac Mini will do) and use Toast.
Roxio does what you say. I've used that with some success.
None of the free tools are simple. they do the job well but not as you describe, there are hoops to jump through.0
