My daughter has a problem with her 2014 Vauxhall Astra 1.7dti. The car is still under warranty with a mileage of 23K.

The car started smelling of burning the other day which is believed to be some kind of problem with the clutch. She contacted the main dealer who informed her to continue to use the car and the smell should go after a few days. The smell is now getting worse, although the clutch still appears to work fine.

My daughter contacted the main dealer again and she was informed that she would responsible for the repair work unless an inspection of the clutch showed that the components were faulty. Because it is a main dealer the repair bill would be very expensive.

So my question is can an independent garages undertake Vauxhall warranty work? or any other advice would be gratefully appreciated.

It's highly unlikely that any garage apart from a Vauxhaul dealership will be able to carry out warranty work but the only way to know for sure is to ready the warranty documentation or ask Vauxhaul themselves.
If the repair is covered under the warranty, why would you want it carried out anywhere other than a Vauxhaul dealership?

The problem is that the repairs will not be covered under the warranty, if the defective component is found to be caused by wear and tear, and what's to say that this will be the conclusion even if the part is defective.
