Somewhere to go for Christmas

Every year I've wanted to go away for Christmas, but I have no idea where to go. So I'm hoping that other MSEers could help with some suggestions?

I don't mind if it's somewhere cold or hot, but I think I'd like to go somewhere where they do celebrate Christmas. Even somewhere in the UK!

Do you think that it's even worthwhile going away, or is it more money than it's worth?

Thanks guys ;)

nice little log cabin out in the snow, very christmassy, if that's your idea of what you would want to do then look into norway and finland or even lapland

Nothing fancy but we are going to Butlins for Christmas. Can't wait though. My little ones are 2 and 5 and it is supposed to be fantastic for them at Christmas with the pantos etc.

    Hasn't cost much either.

Do you have children to think about??

My family (3 adults) would love to go away for christmas also, but we would like to go somewhere hot.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

We were in Tenerife just before Christmas last year and it was lovely. The decorations were very simple and understated but there was a concert in the town square and carol singing. It was hot enough to sit by the pool too.

We went to florida last year but didnt go out until Boxing Day but this was due to a lack of space on flights. This year going to Los Christianos in Tenerife on Christmas Eve.

Thanks, I've got some good ideas to start looking at now. I didn't want to spend loads of money as we don't have any children and I don't tend to spend a lot of money at Christmas anyway, but I just wanted something different.
  • I went to Denmark at christmas a couple of years ago. The atmosphere is lovely and, though it is hard to explain they celebrate in what seems a much more innocent and old fashioned way than we do here. It was cold though, also air fares tend to be quite expensive at christmas with all the Danes going home. My favourite thing was that there was a christmas tree in the town square and groups of people all join hands and dance and sing around it.

  • We had a brilliant time in Norway combining skiing and christmas. If you don't ski there are sleigh rides, dog sledding. Our hotel had traditional Xmas events on Christmas Eve including a visit from a very realistic Santa (real red nose and beard) and Reindeer in the hotel lounge. There were some very nervous hotel staff with dustpans and brushes nearby. Cost about £800 each for 10days half board with Crystal Holidays.
