SEO question re. URL

Afternoon guys!
Just wanted to get some opinions on something.
I am rebranding my blog and have come up with the perfect name but the URL is taken and 301 redirects to another site (obviously changed their name at some point).
I really love the name so I was thinking of dropping the first word of the blog name (it's four words) and using that as the URL and then the full name as the official blog title. Essentially the first word is just a "joining" word (like and, to, from etc.) so would this be OK SEO wise or too detrimental to overall value?
I'm pretty set on this being the new name but obviously want to make sure I'm doing as much as possible in terms of optimisation. I have checked and there is very low (if any) competition for both the short and long version so I'm not too worried about that at the mo and obviously I would thoroughly optimise titles etc. as much as poss for the full name,

What search keywords are potential visitors to your site most likely to use?
Those words should appear in your URL and title.0 -
googles algorithm is moving more into keyword concepts rather than one phrase per page so dropping a word will be ok... maybe just try to use the word in the content and inbound links...
you could alternatively instead of removing a word try adding one like uk or something none descriptive although 5 words is quite lengthy...0 -

You can call the site whatever you want. The URL is absolutely fine with words missing. What matters is content, quality links back to your site, sharing signals.
Write amazing content on your site regardless of what name it has or URL it has. Focus on sharing that content as much as possible. People will come.
Do it again, and again, and again until you have healthy visitors to each of your articles. This creates lots of traffic throughout your entire site.
