TV re-formatted hard drive - fixed / recovered

I used a 320gb hard drive for recording from my Sony tv last year and it worked OK. But the tv reformatted the hard drive completely such that it was not recognisable when I plugged it in to my computer. At the time I was unable to recover the drive as my PC could simply not see it. So I had resigned myself to having lost that drive.

This morning I found a very good video on YouTube which fixed the problem in minutes.

Nice to start the day with a win ! Some of the stuff on YouTube (repairs, DIY, computers etc is very good).

Nice video, you're not recovering the hard disk though, you're just reformatting. These TVs are Linux based when you plug them into the TV to use the recording features it needs to reformat the spec that Linux is more comfortable with, you get a warning that data will be lost. If you just want to watch videos on the hard disk then this can be connected to the TV without the need for reformatting and you can plug and play between the TV and PC.
  • Agreed. I did not mean that I recovered any lost data. I meant that I have recovered the use of the drive for normal PC work. The reformatted drive is now completely empty and ready to go.
