Moved fridge/freezer - now its running continually

I moved my fridge/freezer for so that I could clear the dust from the condenser and compressors at the back (as recommended by the manual). Now it seems to be running continuously - the last five hours at least. Is it time to panic?

Have you tried switching it off and on again?

    Always a first step....except if it's a heart monitor.

Is it close to a wall?

Has the back and underneath of of it got ventilation space?
  • Good points. Thank you. Not that close to the wall but I will give it more space. I now recall a similar thing happened the last time we did this just over a year ago. On that occasion I switched it off and on again with the result that it didn't restart for a long time, and water started to appear from under the appliance. Something tells me that it doesn't like to be moved anymore.

It's now being going for about 10 hours.
  • Most manufacture recommend To ensure the correct functioning of the appliance, let it stand for between 1½ and 2 hours after transporting/moving most people don't bother though ? gases settling etc

Bought one yesterday, the manual said leave at least 4 hours before turning it on to settle (the old fridge we had said 12!). There was also a bunch of stuff in the manual about keeping it upright and if you do have to lay it down, only lay it on its right side.
  • ! see. I didn't turn mine off, probably that is where I went wrong.

You can afford to switch it off for while, like 4 or 5 hours, to see if this helps.

I presume you have tried twiddling the thermostat, or sending it up and down if it's a digital model.
