Wrong licence number on ticket - invalid

Hello

I got a parking ticket and the warden has made a typo on my number plate so it doesn't match my car.

Does this make the ticket invalid?

If so should I just leave it or do I need to officially appeal?

Many Thanks

C.

If they have put the wrong vrn they won't find the right vehicle owner . The warden could have taken a photo though.

Sit tight and see if anything happens.

As waamo says, council or private ?

If council ( i.e. a "real" fine ), head on over to pepipoo : http://www.pepipoo.com/

If it's a private company, then read the stickies carefully and follow the advice : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4896178

If council then enter an appeal and just state that the ticket was on your car but the registration does not refer to your vehicle. Don't even mention your registration, they don't need to know

And, as I did, tell them they need to go via DVLA to find the owner of that vehicle.

As it is a council ticket they cannot re-issue with corrected reg so the ticket is void.

    Or, do nothing at all.

    From Which
My ticket doesn't include the correct car registration number. Can I appeal?

When issuing a parking ticket, parking attendants must record a number of details, including the registration number of the vehicle.
If key details such as the registration number are recorded incorrectly, the parking ticket is invalid.
However, if the parking ticket error is slight – such as the vehicle colour noted as being grey instead of silver – this alone is unlikely to invalidate the parking ticket.

If it's a private one, just wait and see what happens. They've been known to put incorrect details in window tickets, so that the owner will write and "correct" them, thus giving away the driver.
  • sorry should have said it is council
  • If I appeal won't I have to give my name and address away?

In which case, the ticket is dead in the water. Wrong VRN is fatal to a council ticket.
