Draft contracts

How long should it take to get draft contracts?
We are about 4 weeks into our purchase (no chain either end) and we have not had them as yet.
Had an e-mail from my solicitor asking me to chase the EA a couple of days ago which I did but still nothing. I know it can take some time, but we are hoping to complete in 4 weeks time... so I think they are starting to push it. Whats the norm?

    When we were buying I found it easiest to contact the sellers and have them chase their solicitors when things came to a stand still.

    So far we have had acceptance of offer 4 weeks ago followed by memo of sale 3 weeks ago then nothing. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

    Give the EA another call, get them to chase their client and the solicitor acting on the clients behalf. It may be the seller has been slow in filling in and returning the Property Information Form and Fixtures and Fittings Form, or it could be that the solicitor is a bit rubbish, or it could be the seller is asking them to move slowly for some reason, or it could be something else.
  • Took the and a half months for our solicitor to receive contracts package from the vendor. We ended up chasing EA daily to get them to push.

    Please do not think that you're going to complete in four weeks. While it's possible if your draft contracts turn up it would be extremely unlikely if your sellers are holding up the contract pack being issued.

    Have your sellers even returned the paperwork to their solicitors? Ask your estate agent to find out

    But as you say, it's possible. My seller's solicitor took 5 weeks to send the draft contracts due to the deeds going missing, we are due to complete next Friday which is around 4 weeks from when the solicitor received them.

    However it has taken a LOT of pushing and shoving to make it happen.

    Good look! We assumed a quick sale due to being chain free either end, we are now week 17! Nothing complicating sale, just general slowness with solicitors!

    Hi, I'm due to complete next week in a total chain free sale with vacant possession. Things only started to really move a week ago when both me and the sellers complained to our solicitors about their slowness.

    Mind you, it took 4 weeks to get the draft contacts because the sellers hadn't paid the initial deposit to their solicitors until 3 weeks after offer and didn't realise this would cause a delay!
