EON meter readers

Since I moved to EON last December, I've had 3 bills. A short while before the due date I've received an email stating that I don't need to enter readings "because the meterman cometh". However, being a man of little faith I've entered my own readings.:rotfl:
The strange thing is that I haven't seen hide nor hair of a meter reader and there have been no readings input on my account other than my own - if I hadn't done my own thing, I can only presume that my 3 bills would all have been estimated. Anyone else had this experience ??

The supplier only has to read the meters once every two years-to carry out the 'safety' check.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

....agreed -but why send me an email telling me a bill is due but I don't need to enter readings? The point I was trying to make was that I would have had 3 estd. bills, covering the first 9 months with a new supplier.Somebody less aware (= suspicious) would have either overpaid or be in debt!
  • I work for BG, EDF and Scot Power and we do the same. They gather online reads, monthly or quarterly from occupiers and still send us round. Part of our job is not just meter reading but meter inspections and customer verifications. Some customers are so lax they just rely on direct debits as if that is what their bills consist of. Judging by the amounts of rubbish piled up over the meters in their glory holes they don t look at the meters very often. We have to save themselves from their laziness and make sure the direct debits are correct.

I suggest you read your meters every month, enter them online whether they like it or not, and keep accurate records. Then whenever they decide to bill you, you will be in a position to decide how accurate the bill is.

    Hi brewerdave

Sorry the meter reader was a no show. For quarterly billed customers, we operate what's known as a billing window. This is a period of 14 days either side of the next bill date. Where a visit is due, we try to schedule it during this time. If you've given readings during this period, a bill will automatically have been created. It's possible, depending on when the readings hit your account, this led to the visit being cancelled.

It's also possible the meter reader wasn't able to call due to illness, absence etc. In the majority of areas, we read meters once every 6 months for residential properties. If the visit was aborted due to this type of reason, it'll be rescheduled to the next quarter.

I'm speculating rather a lot here, though, and you've done the best thing in letting us have readings. Thanks for doing this brewerdave.

...I do monthly readings for my own spreadsheets, and then enter them as required by the supplier.

Malc - I'll wait for the next "billing window" with interest - can't believe that the meter reader will be sick 4 times in a row !!!:rotfl:

I ve got EON meter reading mates, they def try hard to access the meters as they get a good bonus for hitting 80% access rate. They all leave callback cards for window/door display if you are not in. I think they ve not even sent anyone round to begin with.Possibly if you have a very long drive, dog warnings or electric gates they ve walked on by. We will take the easy option with some awkward houses.

Think you are right -they have never been - our meters are in a box on the side of the house about 5 metres from the pavement -no gates, long drives.....or wild dogs:rotfl:
  • Just out of interest, why don’t you accept the advice of the next email you receive and see what happens? As the EON rep said - “it's possible, depending on when (your) readings hit your account, this led to the visit being cancelled”. By submitting your own readings, you might be depriving sacsquacco and his mates of their hard-earned income!
