Old PPI Claim

I had mortgage protection with HSBC in around 2001/2 but do not know amounts paid etc. I have the policy number and the mortgage reference number to which it was linked but nothing else. When I last contacted HSBC in 2012 they said they could not do anything as their records had been destroyed.
Is there anything I can do ?

Do you have a current account with HSBC? if so, they should be able to locate bank statements showing the direct debits for this mortgage. If not, send them a SAR which should reveal all data they hold about any products you've had with them.

They might come back and say as it was closed over seven years ago and there's nothing left, however, I've read about other customers referring the matter to the ICO and then the bank has found records prior the usual data retention period. It's up to you how far you want to go with it but you will need to find proof of payment. Best of luck
  • I do not have a current HSBC account and no proof of payments so i may, as i suspected, struggle.

    Thanks for reply.
