HOTPOINT (washing Machine)

Options
I brought a brand new hotpoint machine it lasted three weeks then went bang blowing the main fuse for the sockets downstairs. Contacted Hotpoint and to be fair to them they did sent an engineer the next day. However, on investigation it appear the main PCB had gone. The engineers stated "I could of probably fixed that now but I just used my last on the job before". Anyhow I insisted I on a new machine not a repair on a three week old machine. The engineer contacted his control and Hotpoint have agreed to replace the machine. The engineer stated Customer Services would be contact with me in a couple of days to arrange top pick my fried machine and drop off a new one. To date I havn't heard nothing!!

However, I can't seem to find the answer anywhere but can you claim compensation from a retailer or manufacturer for loss of the washing machine whilst its broken down under guarentee ?

I having now to take my washing to the laundrette at a cost £10 per load plus the travelling and my time.

Erm have you rung them to chase whats going on.

You can only ask for a "gesture of goodwill"
    travelling and my time

but i doubt they will offer you anything for that

how long have you been waiting . . . I would contact them to chase this to be honest.

The delay appears to be because you are insisting on a new machine rather than a field repair.

That people demand compensation over such trivial events beggers belief...
    The money, Dave...
  • £10 a laundrette per day.
£5 petrol costs, wear and tear, driving costs.
£7.80 per hour after tax is the 2006 national statistics for the average wage.

    So,

£22.80 times the amount of days without a washing machine.

Also, the trauma/compo/gesture of good will at say £40.

So, if youve gone without for a week I suggest you MUST request £200 minimum.

The chances are that they will you will get sweet F all

Trauma £40? I'd be going for ten times that figure!

    Sorry OP, only being silly.

In answer to your question, no, you have no entitlement to compensation.

Oh for crying out loud .. what a nation of wooses we are rearing that can not even handle minor trivial little set backs without the need to demand compensation.

When our 12 year old Hotpoint finally went to that big scrap yard in the sky a month or so ago we simply asked the neighbours if we could borrow their machine .. the biggest problem we had was finding enough dirty clothes so that we didn't offend one of the neighbours for NOT taking up their offer.

Compensation .. catch a grip! As somebody else says they may offer a gesture of goodwill

Sorry but that is just stupid.

I'm sure anybody would go out and pay probably about £250 for a washing machine and have it break down 3 weeks later and then think 'oh never mind I'll just go and do the washing in the bath'.
  • Thank you all for your "sympathetic" responses.
I spend £300 on a brand new machine I don't expect a breakdown after just 3 weeks. I have a young family 2 adults 4 children. Wahing for 6 people is not a trival thing it can be very time consuming. I don't expect to having to resort to do my washing in a bath or sink when I have brought a washing machine to do the job!
A repair yes I could of chosen that option but the engineer could not tell when he could get a replacement part.

Anyhow Hotpoint have contacted me and a NEW machine will be delivered on the 22nd August. I will be still seeking compensation for the loss of the machine by writing to the Chairman of Hotpoint.

    interceptor,

Have a look at the 'It's all jargon to me' thread just below this - sadly, writing to the chairman will certainly not mean that your complaint goes anywhere near him.

No one was doubting the inconvenience caused by not having a washing machine (ok, some people were!), but you have to appreciate that any offer of compensation will be as a goodwill gesture only, you have no legal right to compensation.
